ADD A WEEKEND — Campers can "add on" a weekend, allowing them to stay three to six weeks without going home—ideal for those extending beyond two-week sessions! In CampDoc, select the weekend "add-on" for sessions longer than two weeks. Note: adding a weekend requires committing to another consecutive week.

LAUNDRY SERVICE — Laundry service is available for campers staying two weeks or more. Laundry is picked up weekly and returned within 1-2 days. The service costs $25 and can be added during registration in CampDoc.

Our groups are kept intentionally small to allow staff and campers to build strong connections and for staff to tailor programming to the interests and needs of each camper.

Registration is done by age to ensure programming and activities are engaging and designed with their preferences in mind.

Eagle Island's natural setting requires campers to walk as their primary means of transportation, often covering up to a mile or more each day over uneven and sometimes rugged terrain. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it’s essential that campers bring sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Additionally, we encourage families to consider their camper’s ability to navigate rough terrain and ensure they are physically prepared for Eagle Island Camp.

Activities

In everything we do, we inspire and empower girls and young women to be confident, collaborative, and courageous. Located on Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, Eagle Island offers programs centered on water and wilderness activities, along with a variety of arts, sports, nature, music, and team-building opportunities led by staff and campers.

Boating

Our fleet includes kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and kid-friendly CORCLs, which are smaller and easier to maneuver. Boating activities offer instruction on safely launching, steering, and docking, along with trips of various lengths and difficulties, plus free time for exploration and skill practice.

Sailing**

We have six Mercuries, 15-foot, sloop-rigged, centerboard sailboats that are well suited to learning to sail given their stability, sturdiness, size, and handling abilities. Mercuries are designed for various skill levels.

Girls Overnight camp Adirondacks Swimming

Swimming

Campers receive daily swim instruction, from basic skills to advanced strokes, and enjoy free swim time with activities like water carnivals, games, and races.

Nature Education

We offer nature-based activities to teach stewardship of the island, the Adirondacks, and the planet, including local plant and animal education, conservation efforts, and Leave No Trace principles.

Camper Choice Activities

Our counselors lead activities they’re passionate about, such as Spanish, drumming, reporting for our Eagles Eye newspaper, puzzles, knitting, kite-making, singing, dancing, and more!

Camper-Led Play

We let campers take charge of their own adventures! Rather than counselors deciding the activities, campers choose, lead, and explore their interests, make new friends, and build leadership skills—all while having fun.

Teambuilding

Team-building is essential for fostering a positive and inclusive camp environment. Campers learn to communicate, support, and trust one another as they work together to overcome challenges, solve fun puzzles, and create lasting memories.

**To sail safely, campers must pass a deep-water swim test that includes a feet-first entry, treading water, floating on their back, swimming 40 yards, rotating 360 degrees, and exiting the water unassisted.

Our Beliefs

Eagle Island offers a completely “unplugged” experience, with no technology and many campers staying in platform tents without electricity. Life at camp is intentionally slower than at home or school, focusing on a relaxed, camper-led, inclusive atmosphere connected to nature. While campers enjoy rich programming, there’s also time for slower-paced activities—like card games in tents, arts and crafts on a lakeside deck, peaceful walks to the waterfront, reading, letter-writing, spontaneous games, puzzles, or silly singing before meals. These unstructured moments are as valuable as the formal activities.
