A Typical Day

Wake Up: 7 a.m. - 8 a.m.

As the sun begins to peer over the Ampersand Mountain Range on the camper’s inaugural morning, they will be gently woken up at 7 a.m. It's an action-packed day ahead, and they won't be sneaking back to their sleeping spaces until after lunchtime.

So with backpacks packed and water bottles full it is time to embrace the day and head to the Dining Hall for breakfast!

Breakfast: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The Dining Hall is buzzing with campers ready to take on the day. All meals in the dining hall are served family-style. In addition to the main breakfast entree like dippable french toast sticks, warm pancakes fresh from the griddle, or steaming hot breakfast sandwiches, we also have a robust breakfast bar with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, crunchy granola, and warm oatmeal.

As the campers are eating the first meal of the day, counselors take this opportunity to dive into conversations, discovering what adventure awaits each camper. These breakfast gatherings allow for personalized, organic connections to blossom between our counselors and their eager campers.

Interest Tracks: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Get ready for a morning full of camper led choices and fun! Activities are varied and include canoeing, sailing, arts and craft (a variety of different projects), nature exploration, and music. Campers will stick with these activities for the week to go deep in an interest area and develop and grow their skills.

Behind the scenes, our program specialists craft the Interest Track menu blending Eagle Island’s resources, staff skills, and camper passions to create the best experience for each camper.

 Lunch: 1 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

At lunch, you can always expect a vegetable and a hot meal like grilled cheese, pasta, soups, and camper favorites like chicken patties. For campers with dietary restrictions and allergies, we always have an appropriate meal available for them. (Please make sure all dietary restrictions are up to date in your camper’s CampDoc Health profile.)

In addition to these daily offerings there is a packed salad bar including fruits and vegetables whose rainbow colors rival those that appear over the Ampersand Mountain Range after an afternoon sun shower. Lunch isn't just about food; it's a perfect moment for campers and counselors to check in and connect.

Quests & Me Time: 1:45 p.m. - 3 p.m.

‘Quests' are what we would traditionally call camp-wide ‘chores’ at Eagle Island. Quests rotate from grove to grove and include cleaning the Dining Hall, Shower House, and Green Johns. With Quests completed, it’s time to kick back for some “me time.” Campers have about an hour to rest, read a good book, write letters, or play cards before spending a fun afternoon at the waterfront.

During Quests, counselors offer guidance and support while campers conquer their tasks. Sure, it might take a bit longer on day one to conquer the Shower House, but they're secretly unlocking epic teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Waterfront: 3 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

Get ready for aquatic adventures! At our waterfront, every camper gets to make a splash in swimming lessons tailored to their skill level. Once the lesson wraps up, it's time to continue with free swimming and boating. We have canoes, touring kayaks, sit on top kayaks, and CORCLs (small boats designed specifically for kids ages 7-15 that are small and light and easy to maneuver).

We also have a variety of on-land programming waiting for you if you do not wish to remain in the water after your swim lesson like field games or friendship bracelet making!

Dinner: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Brace yourselves for another feast whipped up by our kitchen team that might include foods like top your own tacos, build-your-own pizza, burgers, or childhood favorites like chicken nuggets, tater tots or mac-and-cheese. In addition to these comfort foods we often have meals like grilled chicken and a packed salad bar with mixed greens and various veggies and other sources of protein.

As the sun begins its descent, counselors seize the opportunity to fire up the energy with check-ins, catchy camp songs, and table games that turn dinner into a high-spirited prelude to our evening programming. It's dinner and a show, all rolled into one!

Evening Programming: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Evenings at camp are filled with more camper led program options. Picture artsy gatherings on the boat house porch, team-building in the peninsula, strategic board games in the lodge, mind-bending puzzles in the Dining Hall, and team games on the field like soccer, badminton, or a camper designed game. Shower time is available during evening programming.

During our all-camp theme days, we crank up the excitement with theme nights. Imagine pirates, a totally tubular 80s throwback, Halloween spookiness, Disney characters, and thrilling Island explorers – all tailored to campers’ interests each session. We spend the day doing activities related to the theme like scavenger hunts and crafts, the day winds up with a theme dinner or all-camp activity.

Bedtime: 9 p.m. - 10 p.m.

As the day wraps up, campers head to the Green Johns or Shower House where they get prepped for bed. Back at their cozy sleeping spaces, the evening unfolds with a wind down activity led by their counselors, followed by a few minutes of quiet reading or letter writing time, and then lights out.

*Please note that depending upon camper age, this schedule may flip. Our older campers will have interest tracks in the afternoon while waterfront fun takes the morning spot. We set the schedule this way to allow for age specific programming ensuring all campers have the best experience with us at Eagle Island.
