Eagle Island’s Professional Staff
Born and raised in New City, New York, Danielle has always loved fresh air and the outdoors. A committed alpine skier, she attended Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY, and went on to graduate from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Her professional career began in Boston as a paralegal, while also volunteering as a member of the alumni council of her alma mater, Northwood School. Danielle next moved to Northfield, VT, working at military college Norwich University in their Class Giving and Bicentennial Events departments.
After Norwich, Danielle lived in Marquette, MI, serving as the Executive Director at both the Greater Ishpeming Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce and the Western Marquette County Health Foundation. While in Marquette, she helped start the 906 Adventure Team, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth through outdoor recreation. Prior to Eagle Island, Danielle served the New York Ski Educational Foundation as Director of Communications and Development for five years. Danielle lives in Lake Placid with her husband and two children.
Katrina Dearden graduated from Widener University with a BS in Civil Engineering. She developed and implemented Eagle Island, Inc.’s inaugural year of programming in 2019 with two weeks day camp followed with six weeks of programming in 2021 that included overnight, day & family camps.
She came to Eagle Island from Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, where she directed Rock Hill Camp for five summers. In addition to being a Camp Director, Katrina has held positions at various Girl Scout camps including Assistant Camp Director, Program Director, Waterfront Director, and Unit Leader. Before working full time for the Girl Scouts, Katrina worked as a Program Educator at the Storer Camps Outdoors School (a year-round camp facility) where she focused on outdoor adventure and STEM programming. Katrina has also spent time volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader.
Hanna Sue has been a part of the Eagle Island family for a few seasons before joining us full-time as Assistant Camp and Marketing Director. Born and raised in Bermuda, she spent many summers with family on Upper Saranac Lake. She started as a Counselor in 2021 and stayed on as the Assistant Property Manager until the Island shut down. In 2022, she returned as the Program Director, and during the shoulder seasons, worked part-time as our Engagement Coordinator and Content Creator. During the 2023 camp season, Hanna was Assistant Camp Director.
She graduated with a degree in International Education which focuses on culturally sustaining teaching practices and methods. Hanna has always worked with children and has experience in both the school and camp settings. She loves being unplugged and outdoors in nature and shares this passion with campers, alumni, family, and friends.
